A discipline to apply at work: yoga

So much stress at work! Emails, texts, calls…Sometimes working puts us in a bad mood. And when you are not able to pursue your business objectives, then you really feel defeated! But there is a solution: yoga. Here is how to apply the discipline of yoga at work too.

“Ooohhhmmm.”

It could sound banal, but stopping the flow of thoughts and focusing your own attention on the breath has some benefits that go further than your physical health.

Indeed, in this period of restrictions that has forced us (also morally) to stay at home, it could be that we felt victims of excessive laziness or recurring backaches. To cope with these issues, that affect our physical and mental health, yoga is often suggested, immersive discipline that prevents and cures backache, reduces stress, depression and panic attacks.

Let’s see why and how the practice yoga can balance body and mind even at work, offering, this way, a better performance.

3 points for a yogic approach to work

1. Discipline

In the face of the nervosism that a client not replying to emails implicates, a misunderstanding between colleagues, a strong pain resulting from wrong posture, it’s easy to lose patience.

Society and the ego invites us to rejects anything that is tiring or that we don’t like, we would like to have everything without any effort. But in life it is not how it works and often to realise our dreams we must have strict discipline” explains Elena Cassinelli, a yoga teacher with multi annual training.

In fact, in yoga having discipline means getting out of your comfort zone. It means learning to face the difficult situations of our lives.

Then, any self-respecting manager knows that approaching work as if we were on a yoga mat, is good for him, his collaborators and the people with whom he has a lasting relationship.

2. Focus

Staying focused, especially in a moment when most of the workers are smart working, is something easier said than done.

When we are doing yoga, we try to turn our attention to listening to our body and breathe, avoiding any mental distraction. Brining this awareness of the here and now in the work hours, allow to focus on the objective of the day without postponing the tasks to the following days. It means having an antidote to stress, because the hours are well spent and one own’s time is safeguarded.

3. Self-confidence

In certain difficult situations it happens that we can feel shyness, tension and fear of getting involved. By practising yoga, body and mind are relaxed, so much that we take note of these emotions and face any any stress situation.

Indeed, when the mind is relaxed, we manage to have more confidence in ourselves and to express ourselves in a more authentic way, so managing to overcome conflict, hostility and our emotions that influence our life in an inconvenient way.
